An Increase in Pediatric Emergency Room Visits for Headache: Why Is This Happening and What Can We Do? - Alison Christy MD PHD

Description:

Participants will learn about how to distinguish between primary and secondary seizures, how to identify indications for ordering an outpatient EEG, prescribing a rescue medication, and starting anti-seizure and rescue medications. Participants will also learn about typical dosing and side effects of common anti-seizure and rescue medications.

Participants will also understand why pediatric patients come to the emergency room for headache, and why emergency room utilization is increasing, while also discussing emergency room treatment of pediatric headache.

CME: This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education through the joint providership of Legacy Health and Oregon Emergency Medical Services for Children. Legacy Health designates this live activity for a maximum of 1.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)TM. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. CE accreditation: CE credit (1.0 hours) has been provided by Legacy Health Patient Care and approved by the California State Board of Nursing, provider number CEP 8749.
